TomasZewicZ Amplifiers is easily a contender for the best tone of the show; it would really end up being a steel cage death match between them and Wizard Amplifiers. It would be hard for me to pin these amps down to one particular sound or inspiration. These amplifiers have a very broad range to them in terms of available tones that you can dial in.
Mr. John Tomaszewicz was kind enough to give me a demo of what these amps could do. He was plugged into the 35 watt 2 x 12 combo with a Fender Stratocaster that had a humbucker in the bridge position. He was able to dial in a warm, thick clean tone that was pure blues and sounded so lush you would swear there was reverb. The unique control set really allows you to shape the tone and beef it up or thin it out depending on your application. The overdriven tones were spot on and John’s rendition of the Bowie classic “Rebel Rebel” was spot on – the tone was perfect. A quick adjustment of the knobs and he had a Jimmy Page Zeppelin tone with an overdrive so creamy I could have used it in my coffee. The last adjustment brought the amp into touch sensitive, dynamic, soloing territory and did it without a loosing any of the tone and fidelity of the sound. Check out the sound demo below to see what I mean.
John tells me that his circuit is unique and is not simply a copy of the classics. The Tomaszewicz Amplifiers have the ability to sound like many of the classics, depending on how you dial it in, and provides you with the adjustments needed to create a tone that is all your own. The 35-watt version of the amplifiers is available as a head or a combo with one or two WGS 12 inch speakers and 12DW7, 12AX7, 12AT7, 12AX7 and 2-EL34 tubes. There is also a 15-watt version of the amplifier with one 12 inch speaker and the same tube configuration.
As I said before, the Tomaszewicz room at the Amp Show is in a tie with Wizard for the best tone of the show. These amps were a total surprise, as I had not previously heard of them and then - Wham! I love the overdriven sound of this amp, it is so dynamic and responds so well to pick attack, you can really hear every time the pick hits the strings with exceptional clarity. And the creator of these amps is also a very humble, friendly, and knowledgeable person who loves what he does. I think you owe it to yourself to check these amps out, and if your local shop doesn’t carry them, then tell them they have to start!
I live in a flat in San Francisco. For most that statement means nothing more…
